Words From the Heart; Final Draft

When playing sports, athletes need to prepare for a big game not only at practices, but also right before the game.   Most athletes have their pre-game ritual they do to get them ready for the game, both mentally and physically..  Whether it's from listening to their favorite songs, to saying a prayer, everyone is different.  Many athletes have that one person they go to, to prepare them for the game.   That one person can say something and you feel like you're about to play the best game of your life.  For me, the one thing that got me prepared for a game was when my mom said the words, "No sked em' go get em."
When I first started playing soccer at 4 years old, the first thing my mom would say to me would be "No sked em' go get em.".  She didn't want me to play timid like all the other little kids.  "Play like how I used to play" she would joke.  I was generally amused by that phrase since it sounded funny, like something I would read from a Dr. Suess book.   I would always smile and nod hearing the phrase, as saying it became a part of my routine before a game.
I never really took the phrase seriously until I grew older and sports became more competitive.  I remember when I was 11 years old, I was freaking out because I was about to play my first HYSA game.  In the car with my leg nervously shaking, my mom gave her pep talk, and finally said the words, "No sked em' go get em".  That was the first time I actually thought about it, and took the phrase seriously.  I knew that I would have to play tough since I was a scrawny little sixth grader playing against huge middle schoolers.  As the whistle blew to start the game, I remember feeling my heart beat super fast.  The sun was beating down on my back as the phrase "No sked em' go get em" echoed in my head.  Looking towards the sideslines at my mom, I smiled and gave her a shaky thumbs up.  Determined, I ended up holding my ground and actually got recognized by my new coach.  Since then,  I always used the phrase as an inspiration and motivation to strive to play my best.
The phrase "No sked em' go get em" does not only apply to sports, but to other aspects of my life as well.  When I was in elementary school, my self esteem was not the highest.  I was not the smartest student, nor the most talented.  However, I wanted to run as the Moanalua Elementary student government recording secretary.  I worked my butt off to write campaign speeches and make posters.   On the day of our speech, I thought about that quote my mom would always say.  I shook the nerves away, said my speech, and actually won!  After the voting was over, I gave my mom a big hug, knowing that without that phrase, I don't think I would have had the courage to run.
Sometimes the things that affect your life the most, could be as simple as a phrase.  It may not be the deepest, but it sure made a huge difference in my life.  Whether it's before every game, or an important presentation, I will always keep that phrase in my mind.  It has always helped me to face many of my fears, and to tough things out.  It was never "just a phrase" to me.  It was a special thing that only my mom would say to me.  Although she doesn't say it as much anymore, I still think about it whenever I am nervous or scared.  Whenever you come across something difficult in life, just remember, "No sked em' go get em!"

CNN chunky paragraph

The "dead dog beach" in Puerto Rico is a place where many owners abandon their unwanted pets.  "We fight so the dogs of Puerto Rico don't have to."  The Sato Project is an amazing organization that saves dogs that have been abandoned on the "Dead Dog Beach".  Many dogs have been found starving, with broken bones, shivering the rain waiting to be loved.  Over 300 dogs have been seen wandering around the beach in packs (paraphrase of paragraph 9).   All of the Sato project volunteers work hard to raise money and promote the organization (summary of paragraph 23).  Chrissy Beckles,  head of the Sato Project is an amatuer boxer who fights to raise money for the organization.  The volunteers work hard to raise money, and have saved over 1400 dogs so far.  Whether it's from rescuing the dogs, to transporting them to shelters, every volunteer works hard to make The Sato Project better and better.

This is me

HI! My name is Kaylee Sumida, and this is my blog.. "The Write Side of Life".  The reason I chose this title, was because I am living life on the WRITE side.  Basically, if you do the right thing and make good decisions, you will have a better chance of becoming successful in life.  One of the main things I live by is, "It's what you do when nobody is watching that counts."  If you make the right choices, something good will come out of it. I hope to make my blog different than others, by using my OWN voice, putting pretty pictures, and just making my blog interesting to look at.  I chose a simple template because personally, all the fancy templates and backgrounds makes it hard to look at.
The world I come from, is a basic life.  We may not be millionaires, but we have enough to live a comfortable, free life.  The one thing I absolutely love to do, is play sports such as soccer and volleyball.  For me, soccer is not only a sport, but my stress reliever.  If I am feeling down, or angry I automatically grab a ball and start practicing to get my mind off things.  Usually after practice, the first thing I think is, "What am I going to eat?"  I LOVE to eat, especially burgers and pasta..  However, I refuse to eat fish, and will eat only certain vegetables.
Normally, I'm not a grouchy person, but some things really bug me.. One of my biggest pet peeves is when I'm setting for volleyball.  Sometimes, when the hitters don't get the kill, they complain about the set.  If I'm ever in a mood, my favorite things to do is go on a hike, or go to the beach.  I love to explore and try to find new beaches or go on different hiking trails.  Most mornings, I go on a run with my dog, Hachi.  The cool, calming morning breeze always refreshes me and gets me ready for the day.   THATS ME!
