College essay final
University of Washington prompt:
- What is the hardest part of being a teenager now? What’s the best part? What advice would you give younger siblings or friends (assuming they would listen to you)?
2016; the year of Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter. Teenagers disappear behind the screen of a computer, and girls hide their true self behind layers of makeup; afraid of what others might think. Growing up in this generation, teens strive to impress others. Not wearing certain name brands, or hanging out with the wrong people makes you "lame" or "uncool". In high school, I learned there are fake friends that talk behind your back, or judge everything you do. The hardest part about being a teenager is trying to find out who my true friends are.
I used to think that fitting in and being popular was everything in school. I hung out with the cool kids and kept up with the latest trends. All through elementary and middle school, I had a treasured "friend." As a 6th grader, I found her obnoxious actions funny, and thought popularity meant more than true friendship. She was constantly getting into trouble, but I remained friends with her for years. However, as I got older I found myself getting annoyed with the constant drama she had, as well as her constant need for attention. I drifted to a new group of friends, who cared more about grades and friendship than the need to be cool. My old friend ended up getting into trouble with the law and eventually got suspended multiple times. When I found this out, I felt a rush of relief and sadness. We used to be so close that I actually felt bad for her, but was thankful that I no longer was friends with her. I realized that trying to fit in isn't important because when we graduate; popularity won't matter. It's about getting good grades to get into a good college that will get you a steady job. Most importantly, having the right friends that will stick by your side and always be there.
Now that I found who my true friends are, I realize that at this age we should just enjoy life. The best part about being a teenager is being able to be carefree. I noticed that at this age, I don't have as much responsibilities as an adult. I am able to have fun and enjoy myself because I don't have to pay bills or work a stressful job. Hanging out with friends and family, eating taco bell and going adventuring is the best part of being a teenager. Those late night conversations with friends, soccer games/team bondings, and "charging large" at the beach will always be memories I'll remember.
If I had younger siblings, I would advise them to find good friends that will push you to become a better person. I'd tell them that I'd recommend playing sports because that is where I met my closest friends. I've made most of my friends playing soccer, and they make my life more enjoyable each day. I wake up excited to go to school and practice because having amazing friends is such a joy. When I become an adult, the hard times in high school will be nothing more than a distant afterthought. The good times however, will be something I will always remember. Something I'd wish to relive, a memory that would last forever. College essay

Finding good friends that will push you to become a better person will make life more meaningful. If I had younger siblings or friends, that would be the advice that I'd give them. College
Seattle Pacific:
I chose SPU as one of my choices, because I really like the environment in Seattle, and it has a good division 2 soccer program. The acceptance rate is 83% which is is a reasonable number to be able to get into this college. I loved visiting Seattle and wouldn't mind living there.
Holy Names University:
I chose HNU, because I really like the weather in California. It is a small college, which I like and the soccer team travels to Hawaii every year to play which is a plus. I would go here, to play soccer because the coach is really good and they have the courses that I want to major in. Although acceptance rate isn't the highest, at 57%, that would just push me to work harder in school and sports to get in.
Chaminade University:
Out of the colleges here at home, I think Chaminade would be a good choice for me. With an acceptance rate at 85%, I would have a good chance of getting in and maybe even playing D2 soccer for them. Talking to cousins and friends, they claim Chaminade was a better school in their opinion then UH. Having an option here at home is good because I am still undecided about whether or not I would go away or not.
UH Hilo:
I put UH hilo down as one of my choices, because although its still in the state of Hawaii it would still be different than Oahu. Looking into D2 soccer colleges, I believe that UH hilo is good because the weather is the same, yet it is still away from home. With an acceptance rate at 71%, I could work hard and study to get in, and try to receive a scholarship of some sort.
Santa Clara University:
I visited this campus and instantly loved it because of how beautiful it was. I looked into this school because my dad attended there and said it was the best times of his life. Though the acceptance rate is only 47% and they are a D1 soccer school, it would push me to strive to be my best. I think out of all my choices, this would be the toughest college to get into, which makes me want to get into it even more.

word choice olympics part 2

The ref raised his hand, signaling 2 more final minutes. The championship game was coming to an end, as the crowd stood up on their feet chanting. The next play was a corner kick. I was right in front of the goal, and knew this was it. This was the moment. The whistle blew, as my teammate sent the ball in the air. I headed the ball with great force and watched it sail into the back of the net! The crowd went wild, we had won the game. My heart was beating so fast as all of my teammates piled on top of me smiling.

The waves were huge that day, pounding anyone who stepped into the water. Lifeguards were scattered along the beach, trying to keep people out of the water. The sky was gray and the wind was hissing, it was not a good day. I saw this tourist running towards the water trying to grab her hat that had flown away. Then, she was gone. I was towards the water, and jumped in as I saw her emerge gasping for air. I swam towards her with full speed, as I grabbed her trying to pull her towards the shore. By then, other lifeguards hoped in giving assistance as the girl thanked me graciously over and over.

Word choice olympics
The hours felt like seconds as the time was flying past. Today was the day that my father was getting deployed. I wanted to spend as much time as possible with him on his last day. Our house was dead silent as we just sat next to each other, enjoying his presence. When it was finally time for him to go, I looked at him with tears welling up in my eyes as I told him to be safe. It felt as if my heart was being ripped out of my chest. We all came in for a group hug, as tears rolled down my mom and sisters eyes.

Coming of age essay final
“What’s it like to be a twin?” I’ve been asked this question countless times. Many people wish they had a twin. They think that it must be so cool. People think that doing everything together, even dressing the same at times may be considered fun. September 4, 2001. I was born half an hour before Kelci. That was the day our lives of constant comparison began.
All my life, I’ve looked down on myself. I always felt like I was just Kelci’s shadow. She had better grades, was more athletic, and was blessed with a bigger, more muscular body. I constantly told myself that I’d never be good enough; that I would always be the weaker twin. My self-confidence was very low and I was constantly comparing myself to her. Why aren’t I as smart as her? Why did I have to be a twin? Would I ever beat her in anything? These questions swirled around my head throughout the day. Twins are supposed to be the same, so why did she beat me in everything?

Why aren’t I as smart as her? Why did I have to be a twin? Would I ever beat her in anything? These questions swirled around my head throughout the day. Twins are supposed to be the same, so why did she beat me in everything?
All through elementary school and through the end of middle school, I felt that way. I spent the days and weeks of those years constantly worried about if I could ever be good at anything. I was happy for all of her accomplishments but still felt miserable knowing we were constantly being compared. People would tell me, "dang it must be hard having a twin like Kelci", and it was. I trained hard at practices, studied hard in school, and yet felt like I was worth nothing. My Gpa was good enough to make honor roll and I scored a decent amount of goals in soccer. But my 2 goals would be topped by her 3 and my 3.7 GPA was beaten by her 3.8. As my eighth-grade year was coming to a close, the annual sports banquet was arriving. I was anticipating going there to congratulate Kelci on receiving many awards.
The day had finally arrived, as all the athletes gathered around the cafeteria waiting to be let in. People around me chattered excitedly, wondering who would receive the most valuable player award. The coaches went one by one giving their end of the season speeches congratulating everyone on a great year. Our volleyball coach, Coach Amby, then walked up onto the stage. He announced the awards for Most Improved and Team Player Award as everyone applauded and cheered. I then turned my back to face Kelci as I figured she would be called next for the Most Valuable Player award. To my surprise, Coach Amby called my name and all my friends next to me cheered and told me to go up to the stage. I received my medal and was taking some pictures as my coach told me how proud he was of me. I went back to my seat, chattering with my friends and was astonished when I heard my name again. As I looked up at the stage, my soccer coach, Mr. Hopoi, was holding an MVP medal in his hand beckoning me to come up. “This was not happening. I must be dreaming,” I thought to myself. That was the moment that I realized that I was not anybody's shadow.
Although it was just middle school sports, it meant a whole lot more to me. That was the day I realized that in order to get through life, I’d have to stop looking at everything like it was a competition. I put that “I feel sorry for myself” attitude away and actually started to work hard for myself. Don't doubt yourself, prove yourself. I learned to appreciate the life that I was given and use other people's achievements as motivation to push myself to be a better person.

angry letter
Dear Brandy Melville Management,
My friends and I have been shopping at Brandy Melville for many years now. The various clothing options and good pricing have us coming back each week.
However, in my most recent visit I discovered an issue with your “one size fits all” policy. This past weekend, I went to the mall with a few of my friends. Our first stop was of course, your store. While shopping, I encountered a cute pair of vodi shorts. Excited, I went into the dressing room to try it on. To my disappointment, I found that the waist of the shorts were too big and did not fit me correctly. As I stepped out of the dressing room, my friend came up to me saying the shirt that she wanted was too tight for her. I understand that it may be easier for a company to make everything one size, but it may cause some girls to have body image issues. With the pressure to keep up with the latest trends and styles, not being able to fit Brandy Melville clothes can cause teens to dislike their bodies, and drop their self-esteem. The average teenage girl has the waist size of 28-32 inches, yet your store only sells sizes 0-2. If you’re trying to target teenage girls as customers, wouldn’t you want majority of them to fit the clothes? I feel that to satisfy customers, and to make more profit, Brandy Melville should sell more sizes.
In addition, although I always look forward to coming to your store, the workers are not friendly and do not offer their assistance. Often times I find myself jumping trying to reach the clothes as they just stare and watch me. I understand coming to work may not always be a joy, but to make sales workers should be more pleasant to customers.
Though there are some conflicts I came across with your store, I am pleased to find different options every time I visit. Brandy Melville has a great selection of tanktops and shorts, for reasonable prices. With clothes matching each season, my whole wardrobe is filled with only Brandy Melville clothing.
I have no objection to the designs of your clothing, but feel to make more profit you should create more sizes.
Sincerely,
Kaylee Sumida

Divorce; final draft
In today's American society, forty to fifty percent of all marriages end in divorce. While going through a divorce, parents sometimes fail to acknowledge the effects it has on their children. Studies show that divorce can have a negative impact on the children that are involved. The children of separated parents often believe they were the cause of the divorce. Depressed and angered, they are more likely to have a clouded judgement on whats right and whats wrong. Teenagers already go through numerous daily problems, such as peer pressure, or bullying. The added stress of having parents go through a divorce can influence teenagers to turn to drugs and alcohol. Although drugs and alcohol prevent certain health risks, it will always have a negative effect because it lowers IQ, results in bad decisions and weakens the immune system.
According to sources, teenagers from ages 15-19 with divorced parents are 39% more likely to do drugs. Teenagers believe drugs and alcohol will solve all their problems but in the long run, it will only destroy their health. Alcohol will weaken the body's immune system, making the body more susceptible to disease and illnesses. Drinking too much alcohol reduces the amount of white blood cells, which stops the body from being able to kill germs. That means that those who drink, are more likely to catch a cold or some type of disease. Abusing alcohol also results in nutritional deficiency. Many teenagers often drink after their parents' separation to forget all of their problems. Abusing alcohol is just as harmful to the body as doing drugs. It has also been found that smoking marijuana can cause severe respiratory damage. "The inhaled smoke from marijuana is often combined with tobacco which is known to cause significant damage to lungs, including the leading cause of lung cancer and emphysema".(OJJDP) Drugs and alcohol destroy not only a person's physical health, but their mental health as well.
Drinking too much and doing drugs can also affect a persons education and brain. The brain of a human develops until the age of 25. By smoking or abusing drugs, it damages the brains wiring. Teenagers who abuse drugs have lower grades and a higher rate of absences which results to them to drop out of school. 1/3 of school dropouts indicate substances were one of the main reasons they made the decision to leave school. With no education, addicts will fail to get successful careers that can support them. It has been found that drugs such as marijuana can reduce your IQ up to 8 points. Drinking too much alcohol if pregnant will not only drop your IQ, but your babies as well. When abusing a substance, it can affect your education, and your behavior too.
Aside from the health effects of drugs and alcohol, these substances can cause behavioral problems in teenagers as well. Many teenagers who get in trouble with authorities have admitted to being under the influence of drugs or alcohol. "The is an undeniable link between substance abuse and delinquency."(recovery.org) In a recent study, it was found that 39% of youth under the age of 18 were on a certain substance at the time of their offense. Drugs and alcohol cause teens to make bad decisions that can destroy their life. Stress and depression, added to a broken home will sometimes push teens over the top. A study found that of 113 delinquent youth, 82% admitted to being heavy drug and alcohol abusers. Abusing substances, will cause teenagers to not make the right decisions, and get them in trouble with authorities. Affecting physical health, mental health and decision making, it is clear that drugs and alcohol are never good for you.
With the number of divorce filings increasing each year, parents must remember to acknowledge the impact it will have on their children's lives. Divorce not only affects the couple, it affects the rest of their family's lives as well. Divorce is one of the main factors that causes teens to abuse drugs and alcohol. Parent separation has become a normal thing in today's society. Real life is no fairytale, and sometimes there is no happily ever after between couples. However, before splitting, parents need to be aware of and acknowledge the effects this will cause on their entire family.

With the number of divorces filed increasing each year, parents must remember to acknowledge the impact it will cause on their children's lives. Divorce not only affects the couple, it affects their family's lives as well. Divorce is one of the main factors that cause teens to abuse drugs and alcohol.
The abuse of drugs and alcohol could harm a persons body in many various ways. These substances can damage a person's immune system. This would make the body susceptible to disease and illnesses. Drinking too much alcohol reduces the amount of white blood cells, which stops the body from being able to kill germs. Abusing alcohol also results in nutritional deficiency. It has also been found that smoking marijuana can cause severe respiratory damage. "The inhaled smoke from marijuana is often combined with tobacco which is known to cause significant damage to lungs, including the leading cause of lung cancer and emphysema". According to sources, teenagers from ages 15-19 with divorced parents are 39% more likely to do drugs. Drugs and alcohol destroy not only a persons physical health, but their mental health as well.
Substance abuse can affect a persons education and brain. Drinking too much alcohol will not only drop your IQ, but your babies as well.
Many teenagers who get in trouble with authorities have admitted to being under the influence of drugs or alcohol. "The is an undeniable link between substance abuse and delinquency." In a recent study, it was found that 39% of youth under the age of 18 were on a certain substance at the time of their offense. Stress and depression, added to a broken home will sometimes push teens over the top. A study found that of 113 delinquent youth, 82% admitted to being heavy drug and alcohol abusers. The Merchant of Venice final essay
Majority of the people in the world believe in the idea of having a soul mate. They believe in the thought of love at first sight, and doing anything for the one they love. In the play, The Merchant of Venice, poor Bassanio saw beautiful Portia, a wealthy lady of Belmont for the first time and fell in love. He was willing to go through an arranged marriage process and choose the right one out of the 3 caskets to marry her. Daughter of Jewish father wicked Shylock, Jessica chooses to marry Christian Lorenzo no matter the consequences, because she loved him. All of the characters come together to protect broke merchant Antonio who's income sunk from his bond with cold hearted Shylock who wants nothing more but his love for revenge. The Merchant of Venice by William Shakespeare theme shows that no matter what the consequence is, people should and will always go through extreme measures to be with the person or thing they love.
Throughout the play, many of the characters proved that they would go long ways to be with the person or thing that they loved. In Act 3, scene 5, Jessica tells Lorenzo, "He tells me flatly that there's no mercy for me in heaven because I am a Jews daughter."(3.5.27-28) Back then, there were strict laws and beliefs about Jews and Christians being together. However, because Jessica loved Lorenzo so much, she looked past the consequences and decided to run away with her lover. Unhappy with her life and father, yet worried about what he would do if he found them, Jessica decides to take all his money. "I may be a daughter of his blood, but i'm not related to his life style.. I'll turn Christian and be your loving wife."(2.3.17-20) She knew that her father would be very angry, and would punish them if they were ever to be found. Without looking back, she took the money anyway and escaped towards her freedom and happiness.
Back then, many daughters were agreed into an arranged marriage forced upon by their fathers. In order to marry Portia, a man would have to choose one of the three caskets that had her picture in it. Bassanio knew he loved Portia from the moment he met her. "Let me choose. As I am, living on the rack of torment."(3.2.24-25) Bassanio knew that if he chose the wrong casket, he was to never to marry anyone. Yet, that was a risk he was willing to take because if he chose right, Portia would become his wife. People should go through extreme measures not only for the people they love, but for the things they love as well. Shylock would rather take a pound of Antonios flesh than 9 thousand dollars, all because he was in love with the idea of revenge. "I swear upon my soul that no man has the power to persuade me otherwise.. I'll have my bond!"(4.1.237-239) Because Shylock hated Antonio so much, he loved the idea of revenge and a pound of flesh was the only way he thought Antonio would pay for it. Doing this, he knew this was going against his religion and that there would be consequences yet, he believed it was the "right" thing to do to Antonio.
In conclusion, the theme of the play The Merchant of Venice portrays that when a person loves someone or something, they will and have to do anything for them no matter the consequence. Love is about sacrificing things to be with the person you love. A person should put the person they love needs over themselves, and protect them no matter what. No matter the consequence or judgement they will get, when a person loves someone they will prove it to them. Just like how Jessica was willing to change her religion and Bassanio borrowed a lot of money just to be with the people they loved. Someone being able to change or risk things to be with their significant other as proven in The Merchant of Venice is portrayed as love.

Merchant of Venice Act 1
Act 1 scene 1 and 2
1. The setting of this story, is ancient venice in midevil times. In this story, there are rankings of a princes, and princesses, to peasents and servants. How much money each person has basically describes what their rankings.
2. Antonio is a Merchant in Italy. Antonio is always depressed, and he does not know why. He fears he lives his life on a "sad stage".
3. Bassanio asks Antonio for a loan. Antonio however claims he cannot give him a loan because bassanio is already in debt and has not paid back his other loans.
4. To solve her problem, Portia decides to just keep quiet and just go along with the choosing of her suitor to follow her fathers wishes.
Act 1 scene 3
1. Choosing a man suitable for her is out of Portia's hands, because portia must follow her fathers wishes. Her father has a custom where whoever picks the right of the 3 chests, shall be the man who married his daughter.
2. Shylock is a jew who is important to the story because he is the person Antonio and Bassanio ask for a loan from.
3. The agreement Shylock and Antonio come to terms with is that if he doesnt pay Shylock back, he owes him a pound of fair flesh.
4. Shylock is so hesitant towards his agreement with Antonio, because in the past, Antonio treated him like trash because he was a jew. He does not know whether Antonio will pay him back and be trusted, therefore making a consequence with him if he does not.
5. No, I would not trust Antonio. He treats those beneath him meanly, and only when he needs something, then he'll act nice. A person cannot just change from cold-hearted to kind-hearted in one day.
Reflection:
Friends don't make good buisness parenters because if one fails to comply, then they wouldn't want to be mean to their friend in fear of losing them. Antonio and Shylock doing buisness together is smart, because if Antonio doesn't pay Shylock back, then Shylock can cut off one pound of his flesh. If Shylock were his friend, he would not be able to do that to Antonio.

Anticipation Guide
Don’t rely on outward appearances when making judgments.
I agree with this statement completely. When meeting someone or even just seeing a person on the street, we tend to make judgements based on their looks. However, often times after getting to know someone we find out that our judgement was wrong. When I first met my friend, I thought that she was stuck-up and sassy, but it turns out I was wrong. Now, she is one of my closest friends.
Justice is always blind.
I disagree with this statement. Justice may be "blind" at times, but not always. When a crime is committed, there really is no fair or right punishment. The word "always" is used to often but it is just another word for infinite. Sure justice is unfair sometimes but there are other times where justice is served.
A brotherly love between two friends can be just as strong as an intimate love
between a man and a woman.
Agree. A love between two friends could be as strong intimate love if they share the same connection and trust. Relationships will come and go, but friendships are forever. Having a boyfriend will happen over the years until you meet the right one, but throughout the breakups and heartbreaks, you'll need a friend who will be there for you, and be your shoulder to cry on. Love between two friends could be just as strong.
You can break a promise as long as you have a good excuse
I agree with this statement, because even though many people believe promises are meant to be kept there are times where breaking them is the best. Even though it may sound bad, you can't keep every single promise that you make. Once I promised my friend that I would tell her everything, but when it was something that would hurt her, I knew I had to keep it a secret to protect her. Love is blind.
I agree with this statement, because people don't know when or how they fall in love, they just do. You never know who your going to fall in love with therefore, love is blind. In the show gossip girl, Blaire would have never imagined that she would fall in love with Chuck because he was so cold-hearted, but they fell in love and she fixed his heart. Stereotypes are often right.
I do not agree with this statement. Stereotypes are made based off of a persons looks or the way they live their life but they are not necessarily true. In this tv show Black-ish, there was a stereotype that basically said black people cannot swim. However, in the episode the kids proved this to be wrong. An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth is a good motto to live by.
I disagree with this statement. Getting revenge on someone is never good, and it makes you lower as a person. Taking the high road on things is the right thing to do. Once, in a soccer game I had to go against this girl who played really dirty. She would slide tackle, kick me in the shins, punch me in the stomach and do whatever she could to keep me from scoring. Even though I thought about playing dirty back, I never did and when she missed her slide tackle, I jumped over her legs and ended up scoring. Most times, taking the high road will pay off.

Character Analysis
In the book, "Of Mice and Men" by John Steinbeck, this story takes place during the time of the Great Depression. "No mess at all, and when the end of the month come I could take my fifty bucks and go into town and get whatever I want." Stated in this quote shows this story took place during the great depression, because workers only got paid $50 per month. When George said that, he made like fifty dollars was a fortune. During our background research, we also researced mental retardation. "George wunt run away and leave me. I know George wun't do that." This relates to the book, because Lennies character is mentally retarded. He doesn't know how strong he is, cannot remember anything, and can kill animals on "accident". He always has to depend on George to do everything for him, from thinking to holding onto things.
Curleys wife, as said in the book is desribed as a pretty girl, who's got the guy for a lot of people on the ranch. "Ranch with a bunch of guys on it ain't the place for a girl, especially like her." (Page 51) In this quote, it shows what people think of her and how she is known for flirting with guys even when shes married. She constantly goes around meeting the new guys and trying to flirt with them. " I don't like Curley, he ain't a nice fella." When Curleys wife says that, it explains why she acts the way she does. She is not happy with her life and especially not happy with her husband. The reason why she talks or flirts to a lot of guys is because she is lonely and unhappy with Curley.

The Great Depression
The Great Depression was America's biggest economy downfall ever. "In 1929, one of Americas biggest stock market crashed causing the biggest economic struggle in the entire world." America struggled in finances from 1929-1939. This was the "longest lasting downturn in the industrialized world." Due to the Great Depression, many people lost their jobs and became unemployed. As the economic struggle deepened, America became not only in financial trouble, but political as well. Many hard-working individuals struggled with poverty.
During this period, comparnies struggled in making money, and many people didn't have jobs. "About 12 - 15 million Americans were left unemployed". Since men were expected to provide for their family, they felt humiliated and disappointed that they could not get a job. Females and children sometimes had to take on new responsibilities, just so that their family could survive. "By 1933, 11,000 of the nations 25,000 banks had disappeared." Nearly half of America's banks had failed, due to the large amounts of people that needed to withdraw cash. These people needed to take back their money, so they could feed their families. The Great Depression was a time of hardships and setbacks for the people and their families.

I am tropical weather
My moods are always changing
With unpredictable changes
Coming and going
My moods are the weather
Changing,
with no warning
I am tropical weather
Oblivious to things around me
Affecting others
without realizing
My tears are the rain
Only temporary with pain
I am tropical weather
Walking around
affecting others around me
Brightening someones day,
is how I choose to slay
Ever-changing, outgoing, oblivious
I am tropical weather
I can be the sunshine
to someones day
or the cloud
that never goes away.

LA: rough draft poem
There are certain moments in life when an opportunity presents itself. A person can either make a choice to take it, or hope and pray that it comes around again. The author writes about how an amusement park is like a persons life. He compares the hours of an amusment park to the years in someones life. Time goes by so fast, so try and accomplish everything and get things done before you no longer have the chance to. In the poem, "A Coney Island Life" by James L.Well states to take every opportunity, because there is going to come a time where you are no longer able to take it.
Whether a person takes an opportunity or not, it is their choice. In the poem, one of the lines states, "To catch that brass-ring-sun before the game is up." The writer is comparing a carousel to life. Throughout a persons lifetime, everyone receives at least one opportunity. An opportunity only last for so long, before it passes by. Therefore, an opportunity is like a brass-ring-sun, and life is like a carousel. A persons life is only so short and there is no way of telling when it could end. "Last ride, and ask how many more times I have round." A ride on a carousel only lasts for so long, and you never know when it will end, just like life. That's why a person should take every opportunity because there will come a time where you can't.
On some days, a person can feel like they are having the time of their life. However, on others they could just wish for their day to be over.. "Life on rollercoasters up & down." Every person has some good days and some bad days. Take chances on opportunities because a person never knows when a good day could suddenly turn bad. In the poem, one of the lines is "I take perhaps my last ride." The writer is basically saying that a person only has a certain amount of time in their life so they have to live like its their last day. Take every opportunity, every moment, every second of your life and live it to the fullest.
Every choice a person makes in life is an opportunity to live their life out to the best it can be. A big opportunity only comes around once in a lifetime, so ones best shot would be to take it. Opportunity's can be challenging, but that does not mean you should not take them. In the poem, "A Coney Island Life" the writer implies to live your life out, by taking every chance and opportunity and making the best out of it.
